Kat Heterbring enters her third season as Head Coach of the Wells College field hockey program in 2016. She joined the Express from NCAA Division II Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. where she served as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach for the Wolves.

The field hockey team at Wells has improved dramatically across the previous two seasons, culminating in the program's first-ever conference championship in 2015. The Express, competing in its 40th season as a varsity program, claimed the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship after upsetting the preseason favorites from Wilson by a 1-0 margin.

Heterbring's 2014 squad was competitive in the majority of the games on the calendar, playing in eight one-goal contests. In total, Wells scored the fifth-highest amount of goals in a season dating back to the College joining the NCAA in 1986. A long-time assistant coach, Heterbring secured her first collegiate victory as a Head Coach on Nov. 2, 2014 against Ferrum College.

Serving as the women's lacrosse coach for one season, Heterbring's feisty squad caused 121 turnovers on the season, posting the best total in program history. Additionally, Heterbring coached three North Eastern Athletic Conference All-League players, the most in one season dating back to 2012. The team also racked up 23 goals against St. Elizabeth on Mar. 22, tying the single-game program record.

At Newberry, Heterbring assisted the squad with their debut as a varsity program during the 2013 season. The Wolves played a highly-competitive schedule in their first season, facing-off against numerous nationally-ranked programs en route to an ECAC Division II Invitational Tournament berth. Heterbring also coached two Independent Schools Alliance All-Conference players, including the league’s Rookie of the Year.

Prior to joining Newberry, Heterbring served as a Graduate Assistant for the field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams at Elmira College from 2011 to 2013. With Heterbring’s assistance, the Soaring Eagles’ field hockey squad dramatically improved their overall record and earned placement on the NCAA’s “Most Improved Team” list in 2013.

Across her two-year tenure with the field hockey team, nine players earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad recognition and four student-athletes were named to Empire 8 Conference All-League teams. Additionally, Heterbring’s one year stint with the women’s lacrosse team in 2012 saw Elmira post its best record in six years.

Heterbring also drew extensive coaching experience during the Summer of 2014, serving as an assistant field hockey coach for USA Athletes International. The non-profit organization provided amateur athletes the opportunity to compete in International Olympic-style sporting events. Heterbring’s team, of which she was responsible for recruiting student-athletes and post-graduates, competed against numerous club teams throughout Scotland.

A 2011 graduate of American International College in Springfield, Mass., Heterbring was a four-year member of the field hockey team and played women’s lacrosse during her tenure with the Yellow Jackets. Heterbring graduated as the program’s record holder in career minutes played (5,390) and defensive saves (20), earning a selection to the NFHCA North-South Division II All-Star Game.

A two-year captain, Heterbring helped to lead the field hockey team to the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs in 2010 and made an NCAA Division II Championship Tournament appearance. As a member of the starting defensive unit for the women’s lacrosse team in 2008, Heterbring saw action in all 16 games for American International.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from American International, Heterbring went on to earn a master’s degree in General Management from Elmira in 2013. Her sister, Amanda, is a 2009 graduate of Wells and was a four-year member of the women’s soccer team.
