Mike Lindberg was hired as the Director of Athletics and Physical Education for Wells College in September of 2014. Within this role, Lindberg is responsible for the planning, leadership and operational management for all 15 of the Express' NCAA Division III varsity athletic programs. Additionally, he is responsible for coordinating the Wells College Physical Education Department.

At Wells, Lindberg oversees a department that has experienced exponential growth in recent years. Since becoming a co-educational institution in 2005, the cadre of sport offerings has expanded from six all-women’s teams to 15 sport offerings including the addition of baseball and resumption of varsity competition for softball in 2016-17.

Within his first year in Aurora, Lindberg spearheaded improvements to all of Wells' athletics facilities. Major renovations were completed to the Frances Tarlton Farenthold Athletic Wing and a new artificial turf field is due to be completed by the spring of 2016. Full-time coaching positions were also created for baseball, softball and women's lacrosse, further enhancing Wells' recruitment and retention efforts.

A member of the NEAC Executive Committee, Lindberg works with the Presidents' Council, is involved in strategic planning and is a liaison for the league's sports committees.

Under the supervision of Lindberg, Wells placed fourth out of 14 teams in the revamped North Eastern Athletic Conference Presidents' Cup Standings. Express student-athletes finished third in academics while ranking fourth in overall sportsmanship. From a community service standpoint, Wells collectively ranked fourth and placed ninth athletically at year's end. Academically, a school-record 74 student-athletes earned NEAC Scholar-Athlete distinction in 2014-15, the highest-ranking private school in the conference.

Lindberg joined Wells after nearly 30 years at Ithaca College, most recently serving as the Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics for 27 varsity programs and 80 full-time coaches, staff members and graduate assistants dating back to 1998. Managing nearly 800 student-athletes at Ithaca, Lindberg was responsible for NCAA compliance, game day operations, staff recruitment, sport oversight, and student-athlete support services. He served as the Department’s liaison with admissions, alumni relations, athletic training, medical services, first year programs, and judicial affairs. In addition, he assisted with the development of long-term strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and stewardship for the College’s nationally-recognized athletics program.

At Ithaca, Lindberg collaborated in the development of policy and procedure for the management, marketing and scheduling of all athletic facilities, including the $65.5 million Athletics and Events Center that opened to the public in the fall of 2011. During his tenure, Lindberg also served key roles across the campus as the Senior Assistant Director of the Campus Center and Activities, advising several on-campus organizations including the Student Programming Board, Inter-Fraternity Council and the Leadership Advisory Committee.

A member of the NCAA Elite 89 Award Project Team, Lindberg has acted as chair of the Division III Baseball and Women’s Basketball National Committees for the New York and East regions, respectively. Additionally, Lindberg has served as a Host Site Coordinator, managing NCAA Division III tournaments and championships in baseball, basketball, football, men’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and softball.

The chair of the championships committee for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), he was the Division III representative on the Board of Directors and has directed tournaments in football and women’s gymnastics. A member of the Executive Committee representing the East Region for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association, Lindberg has served as Tournament Director for the Division III National Championship.

Lindberg has served as a keynote speaker and educational program presenter at the NCAA Convention and the CHAMPS Life Skills Continuing Education Conference. In addition to regularly appearing at panels as a guest speaker, he is also active with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the National Association of Campus Activities.

Named Division III East Region Administrator of the Year by the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Association, Lindberg was also recognized with the Ithaca College Sports Management and Media Leadership Award and the Ithaca College Choice Award.

Lindberg is a 1979 graduate of Le Moyne College, earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration while playing varsity soccer for the Dolphins. He received his master’s degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Indiana University. A resident of Lansing, N.Y., Lindberg and his wife Bonita have three daughters, Katie, Liz and Nina.
