Wells Express Ranked In College Directors' Cup

Wells College earned a national ranking in 2018-19 and its highest-ever finish in the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings. Wells placed tied for 232nd among 340 ranked institutions, and 450 eligible members within NCAA Division III.

The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in both men's and women's sports. An institution earns points based on its finish within NCAA Championship events, which includes 31 championship events within NCAA Division III. The program began in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today, and was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA.

Wells earned 60 points by virtue of the men's volleyball team's fifth-place finish in the NCAA Division III tournament. It was the first team in any sport at Wells to win an NCAA tournament game, achieved April 19 against Southern Virginia University. Wells finished its season with a 28-9 record, the most wins and highest winning percentage in a single season in the program's eight-year history.

Wells previously earned Directors' Cup points twice. The 2010-11 by the men's basketball team earned 25 points and allowed Wells to place tied for 276th among 324 qualified schools. In 2013-14, the women's basketball team earned 25 points and Wells placed tied for 282nd among 325 qualified schools.

Wells was one of six North Eastern Athletic Conference members to earn points in the Directors' Cup joining Morrisville State (184th), Penn State Abington (216th), Penn State Berks (230th), SUNY Poly (291st), and SUNY Cobleskill (334th).
