"Awards Show Countdown": Men's Soccer

"Awards Show Countdown" is a Wells College Athletics feature that reviews a memorable moment from each team while counting down to showtime. With 13 days remaining until the virtual online Express Awards Show, let's take a look at a moment from the men's soccer team's 2019 season.

The men's soccer team recorded its first win streak of its 2019 season on Saturday, Sept. 21. After a 4-0 win over Clarks Summit in the previous game, the Express got its first conference win with another four-goal output against visiting Cazenovia College. The victory against the Wildcats gave Wells its fourth September win.

What made this game memorable is that the Express rallied not once, but twice to earn the victory.

The Wildcats opened the scoring on a penalty kick during the 22nd minute of the first half before Christian Garavito tied the contest at 1-1 for Wells with a Junger Vargas feed about 10 minutes later.

Cazenovia restored its lead by taking a 2-1 lead into the break, but the second half was all Wells.

In about a 23-minute span during the latter half, the Express exploded for three goals for the come-from-behind win.

First, Mason Beriman tied the game at 2-2 in the 64th minute of the contest with Garavito earning the assist. Then, with a dozen minutes left, Peter DiLauro scored the game winner. Vargas added an insurance marker with less than three minutes to go to seal the victory, while Kingsley Ehling had a dozen saves in net to earn his second win of the season in back-to-back starts.
