"Awards Show Countdown": Men's Lacrosse

"Awards Show Countdown" is a Wells College Athletics feature that reviews a memorable moment from each team while counting down to showtime. With 4 days remaining until the virtual online Express Awards Show, let's take a look at a moment from the men's lacrosse team's 2020 season. The Wells College men's lacrosse team had its best half of play of its 2020 season in its last outing. It might have taken the Express a quarter to find their legs but once they did, they dominated the remainder of their game at Elmira on March 11.

What made that March game memorable was the team's response and rally after trailing by five goals. In a complete turnaround, the Express dominated the second half of play and outscored the home team by a 4-1 margin with a strong finish.

From the moment the team got its first goal in the final minute of the first quarter, the momentum changed in favor of the Express as they outscored host Elmira 7-4 the rest of the way.

Almost every statistic from the second quarter-on favored Wells. Elmira might have won the overall groundball game at 59-53, but the Express held a 48-46 advantage through the last three quarters. Wells converted on three man-up attacks, while not allowing a goal being a man-down.

Quinten Battle led the Wells attack with three goals that included one man-up marker. Nathan Ramsey started the rally with a goal in the final seconds of the first quarter and finished the game with a pair of goals with one being at man-up. Dalibor Hanes also had a man-up goal and Trevor Stein rounded out the scoring for the Express with a goal of his own.

Assists came from Battle, Ramsey, Stein and Padraic Iannello. Miles Mungail recorded 18 saves in the Express net, while Joe Stoj finished with four caused turnovers and eight groundballs that was one shy from team groundball leader Jared Shearer.
