'On This Day' Big Second Half Leads Express Over Morrisville in Women’s Soccer

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Sept. 1, 14 years ago in 2006.

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College Express scored three goals in the second half of play to earn a 3-2 victory in its season opener against Morrisville on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in women's soccer action.

Melissa Vair, Amanda Heterbring and Laurissa Reitz scored three consecutive goals in a 20:34 second-half span for the Express.

Kaelin Coltre opened the scoring for the Mustangs 35 minutes into the first half. Vair answered with a shot from teammate Mestasabia Rigby 5:14 into the second session with Heterbring tallying on a breakaway 5:35 later.

Reitz added the game winner with just under 20 minutes to play on a penalty kick.

Jessica Squire brought the Mustangs to within a goal in the 77th minute to close out the scoring.

Claire Petersen made three saves in goal for the Express. Jessica Yates stopped two for Morrisville.
