'On This Day' Men's Soccer Team's Win Streak Now at Four

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Oct. 8, four years ago in 2016.

The Wells College men's soccer team scored an early goal and went on to a 3-0 win over Penn College on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the Wells Turf Field.

Wells opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play on a corner kick. After Junger Vargas crossed the ball to the front of the net, a back-heel shot from Justin Bingham was saved, but Adam Whitaker collected the rebound and scored from close range.

The Express added a second goal just before halftime as Tyler Adams had some space in the midfield, dribbled past a few defenders and shot from the edge of the penalty area toward the right post His shot deflected off a Penn College defender and into the net for a 2-0 lead.

The only goal of the second half came in the 67th minute. Jesse Constantino made a pass from the right side of the box and Christian Garavito ran onto the pass and fired a shot past the goalkeeper for a 3-0 Wells lead.

The Express had a 27-4 advantage in shots and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wells goalkeeper Owen May earned the shutout with one save. It was his fourth shutout of the season.
