The Wells College men’s and women’s swimming programs will both head into the 2013-14 championships as the reigning conference champions. In 2012-13, the Express earned their second-straight women’s swimming championship while the men picked up their second overall championship.

Then-junior Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) picked up NEAC Swimmer of the Year following his performance across the three day championship while then-freshman Hilary Feudale (Coal Township, Pa.) earned the league’s Rookie of the Year honors. Head Coach Trish George was tabbed as the conference’s Coach of the Year for her work with the women’s swimming program.

In 2013-14, the Wells women set the all-time record for head-to-head victories in a season, posting an 8-6 overall record. Last season, Wells recorded eight overall victories but only seven against NCAA Division III competition. The Express are undefeated against league opponents this season, collecting team victories against St. Elizabeth (W 48-47), Gallaudet (W 107-94), Cedar Crest (W 129-36) and Cazenovia (W 120-85). The last NEAC loss for the Express came on Jan. 28, 2012 in a 57-43 defeat at the hands of Cazenovia.

In 2013-14, Feudale led the women’s team with 10 first place finishes in individual events. Competing in the 50 Yard Freestyle as well as the 100 and 200 Yard Backstroke events, Feudale placed no lower than third in 17 individual events on the season. All of the active swimmers on the women’s roster for Wells have accumulated at least a second place finish on the year.

On the men’s side, the Express will enter the league’s championship meets with four swimmers. Led by Sleezer, who also serves as a team captain, the Express have been competitive against the fellow NEAC schools in 2013-14, posting narrow losses to SUNY Cobleskill and Gallaudet on the year. While picking up a 73-59 victory over Ferrum College on Dec. 7, 2013, Sleezer was able to set the program record in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 11:28.87.

In individual events on the men’s side, Sleezer placed first or second in all of his events. Placing second only twice on the season, Sleezer racked up 18 first place finishes across a variety of events, including the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 Yard Freestyle events in addition to the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 100 Yard Butterfly.
