Geneseo Men, Women Three-peat at Atlantic Regionals
O'Connor (RPI) and Cordani (Ithaca) Claim Individual Titles
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Geneseo State men's and women's teams each won their third-straight NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Cross Country titles on Saturday at Houghton College.
Geneseo's men outdistanced second-place RPI by a score of 61 to 98. RIT (124), Rowan (151) and NYU (168) rounded out the top five.
For the women, Geneseo scored 41 points, while second place Ithaca totaled 102. RPI (121), St. Lawrence (153) and The College of New Jersey (183) were the others in the top five.
The top two teams in both divisions earn automatic qualifiers to next weekend's NCAA Championships.
Despite the team dominance by the Blue Devils, the individual championships went to the runner-up schools. Grant O'Connor of RPI took the men's title in the 8K with a time of 24:14, while Taryn Cordani of Ithaca ran a 21:24 to claim the women's 6K crown.
The women's race featured 285 athletes from 41 schools. The men's race featured 290 athletes from 42 schools.
The athletes raced in frigid temperatures that hovered in the mid-20s most of the morning and early afternoon.
