Penn College Sweeps Two Games From Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team opened conference play and was swept in a doubleheader against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Penn College on Saturday, April 1 at the Wells Turf Field. Penn College won the first game 10-3 and the second game 9-3. Penn College is 10-5 on the season and 2-0 in the NEAC. The Express fell to 3-10 overall and started 0-2 in the league. Wells hosts Utica College for a pair of games Sunday, April 2 beginning at noon.

The visiting Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first but Wells answered with two in the bottom of the first on an RBI double from Dylan Nolan and run-scoring single from Mark Yorkey. The other Wells run came in the fifth when Brandon Shirley tripled to bring in KeAndre Sadler. Thee of the four Wells hits in the game were extra-base hits. Jared Strait took the loss in five innings of work. Jared Bieber pitched the final two innings.

Justin Forster hit a two-run home run to right field to highlight the offense for Wells in the second game. That came in the bottom of the fifth and scored Tanner Dunkel, who doubled to start the inning. Forster scored another run in the bottom of the ninth when he walked and came around to score on three wild pitches.

Aaron Wintermute took the loss for Wells in four innings of work. Christian Jorden pitched four innings of relief and Mark Yorkey pitched the ninth inning. Only two of Penn College's nine runs were earned.
