Cazenovia Takes Baseball Doubleheader Over Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team hosted Cazenovia College for a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games Monday, April 10 at the Wells Turf Field. Cazenovia won the opening game by a 7-0 score and then took the second game 4-3.

Wells is 5-15 overall and 1-5 in the NEAC. Cazenovia is 3-10 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Wells returns to action Tuesday, April 11 at home for a non-conference doubleheader against Clarks Summit beginning at 3 p.m.

Wildcats starter Chris Schad held Wells to just three hits in six innings, and he recorded 13 strikeouts without issuing a walk. Wells picked up an additional hit in the bottom of the seventh. Cazenovia scored twice in the third and added five in the sixth.

Anthony Aumick, Dylan Nolan, Brian McCann, and Tyler Young had the hits for Wells. McCann's hit was a double.

Brandon Shirley started and took the loss. Garrett Gagnon pitched the final inning and two-thirds.

The Express trailed 3-0 after the first two innings before Wells crawled back into the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Each team scored a single run in the sixth, and the Wildcats held on for a one-run victory.

Five different players had one hit each for Wells, including doubles from Dylan Nolan, KeAndre Sadler, and Brian McCann.

Wells pitchers worked in traffic throughout the game but limited the damage. Cazenovia left 12 runners on base and Wells turned one double play.

Jared Strait started and took the loss. He allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits in 5.2 innings of work. He had six strikeouts and walked two batters. Christian Jorden was effective in 3.1 innings. He allowed just three hits with one strikeout and one walk.
