Wells Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Keuka

The Wells College baseball team went on the road and dropped both games of a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Keuka College on Wednesday, April 26. The host Wolves took the first game 5-4 and won the second game by a 7-2 score at Kuhl Field in Keuka Park, N.Y.

Wells is 10-19 overall and 1-9 in the NEAC. Keuka is 12-13 on the season with a 5-3 record in the conference.

Keuka 5, Wells 4

After falling behind 3-0 in the first two innings, Wells scored a single run in the third and added three in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. Keuka scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the one-run win.

Tyler Young and Mark Yorkey had two hits each. A.J. Nesci drove in two runs on infield grounders. The

Brandon Shirley pitched the first three innings and took the loss. Zach Kemp worked three scoreless innings in relief and allowed just one hit with one strikeout.

Keuka 7, Wells 2

The Wolves scored three in the bottom of the first and never trailed.

Wells picked up a run in the top of the second on an Anthony Aumick single to bring in Brandon Shirley. A fifth-inning run came across for the Express when Mark Yorkey scored on a ball hit by Greyson Avots that resulted in an infield error.

Jared Strait started and pitched into the seventh inning. He allowed six runs on six hits with three walks. He struck out four batters and only two of the six runs were earned. Christian Jorden and Jared Bieber pitched in relief.

Aumick had three of Wells' five hits in the game. All of the Express hits were singles.
