Alfred State Wins Two Games Over Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Monday, March 26 against Alfred State at the Wells Turf Field. Alfred State held on for a 3-2 win in the opening game and then came away with an 11-0 win in the second game.

Wells is back home Tuesday, March 27 at 3 p.m. for a single game against Southern Vermont.

The Pioneers opened the scoring in the top of the fifth with a two-run single to score one run. Alfred State added two in the top of the sixth when a triple to right field scored two runners.

Wells answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. A leadoff single by A.J. Nesci was followed by an RBI double from Dylan Nolan. Nolan moved to third on an infield ground out and scored on another ground out in the infield.

The Express held Alfred State in the top of the seventh, but Wells was set down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Derek Shea pitched the complete game for Wells. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Pioneers scored five runs in the second and added four runs in the third.

Wells had hits from Justin Forster, Brandon Shirley, and Andrew Babcock.

Jared Strait started took the loss. He pitched into the third inning with two strikeouts. Christian Jorden (two strikeouts) and Garrett Gagnon (three strikeouts pitched in relief.
