Abington Takes Two From Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team dropped both games in a doubleheader Friday, April 13 at Penn State Abington. The Lions took the opening game 8-1 and won the second game 28-7. Wells continues play Saturday, April 14 at Penn State Berks with games at 1 and 3 p.m.

Wells is 10-9 overall and 0-4 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Penn State Abington improved to 14-7 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

Abington scored three times in the first inning and led the rest of the way. Wells scored its run in the top of the sixth inning on a solo homer to center by Dylan Nolan. That made the score 4-1. Abington added four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The other hit for Wells came from a Derek Shea single in the fourth.

Brandon Shirley was the starting pitcher and worked into the fifth inning. He took the loss. Garret Gagnon pitched the final inning and two thirds.

Penn State Abington 28, Wells 7

A second-game slugfest saw Abington total 28 runs on 22 hits. Wells scored seven runs on 17 hits. The Express committed seven errors and Abington had five errors.

Four Wells players had three hits each. Anthony Aumick was 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. Derek Shea was 3-for-4 with a double, Brandon Shirley was also 3-for-4, and Justin Forster was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Mark Yorkey was 2-for-5 with a double.

Aumick's homer came in the top of the first and gave Wells a 1-0 lead. Abington scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to the victory.
