Wells Baseball Splits At Cazenovia

The Wells College baseball team got back in the win column with a 10-3 victory over Cazenovia College in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday, April 22 at Rome, N.Y. The Wildcats took the second game 8-5.

Wells is back in action Tuesday, April 24 at Elmira College for a single game beginning at 4 p.m.

Wells is 11-14 overall and 1-9 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Wells 10, Cazenovia 3

Brandon Shirley was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and five RBIs. He had a three-run double in the fifth and a two-run single in the seventh. Wells scored five times in the fifth and added three more in the seventh.

Dylan Nolan was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. He doubled in the seventh and scored.

Justin Forster was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Zach Kemp was the starting pitcher and earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Jared Strait pitched the final two innings. He allowed one hit with no walks and two strikeouts.

Cazenovia 8, Wells 5

Dylan Nolan and Kevin Spaeth each had two hits, including a double, in the second game.

Cazenovia took a 6-0 lead with three runs in the first and three more in the fifth. The Wildcats held the lead the rest of the way.

Wells got back into the contest with three runs in the sixth highlighted by RBI singles from Derek Shea and Tyler Young.

She was the starting pitcher and took the loss. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Johnny Hall pitched an inning and a third in relief and Brandon Shirley pitched two innings in relief.
