Elmira Outscores Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team lost 18-10 at Elmira College on Tuesday, April 24 at Dunn Field in Elmira, N.Y. The Express is 11-15 on the season.

Elmira scored eight runs in the first two innings and led the rest of the way in a high-scoring affair.

A.J. Nesci had three hits for Wells while Brandon Shirley and Derek Shea each hit safely twice. Both of Shirley's hits were doubles, the only two extra-base hits of the game for Wells. The Express scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the game.

Shirley had an RBI double in the first and a two-run double in the third.

Wells scored four runs in the top of the fourth to pull within two runs at 9-7. In the fourth, a double steal brought home the first run. Justin Forster grounded out to bring in another run and a throwing error on the play allowed a second run to score. The fourth run came on a bases-loaded walk.

Matt Morgan was the starting pitcher for Wells and worked two innings. Alexander Mott, Johnny Hall, Christian Jorden, and Garrett Gagnon pitched in relief.

Wells returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference action with a doubleheader Wednesday at Keuka College beginning at 1 p.m.
