Wells Baseball Drops Pair Against Lancaster Bible

The Wells College baseball team dropped two games in a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader against Lancaster Bible College on Sunday, April 29 at the Wells Turf Field. Lancaster Bible edged the first game 4-3 and took the second game 10-4.

Wells is 12-18 overall and 2-12 in the NEAC. Lancaster Bible is 16-11 overall and 6-5 in the NEAC.

The Express continues its season with two games Tuesday at Keuka, two games Thursday at home against SUNY Cobleskill, and a single game Saturday against Ithaca College.

Lancaster Bible 4, Wells 3

The Chargers scored twice in the top of the first, but Wells came back to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wells had two runners aboard, and a sacrifice bunt was thrown away in the infield to allow A.J. Nesci to score the first Wells run. An RBI single by Kevin Spaeth brought in Brandon Shirley and Tanner Dunkel gave Wells the lead with an RBI hit to score Anthony Aumick.

The top of the fifth saw Lancaster Bible retake the lead with two runs. A walk, single, and double brought in the tying run, and a sacrifice fly gave LBC a 4-3 lead.

The Chargers retired Wells in order in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Jared Strait started and pitched all seven innings for Wells. He allowed 13 hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Wells had three hits, the RBI hits for Spaeth and Dunkel, and a single by A.J. Nesci.

Lancaster Bible 10, Wells 4

Lancaster Bible built a 10-0 lead and starting pitcher Noah McMullen held Wells to one hit over the first seven innings.

Wells scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. A.J. Nesci had an RBI single to score Matt Rash, two runs scored on an error, and Kevin Spaeth had an RBI single to bring in Brandon Shirley.

Derek Shea started and worked into the seventh inning. Christian Jorden and Matt Morgan pitched in relief.
