Wells College Baseball Places Two On All-NEAC Teams

Two members of the Wells College baseball team earned all-conference honors as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams and award winners for the 2018 season.

Sophomore Brandon Shirley and sophomore Dylan Nolan earned spots on the NEAC Second Team, as voted on by conference coaches. In its second year of varsity baseball, Wells won 15 games, a two-win improvement over the team's inaugural season in 2017. Wells was 15-20 overall and 5-13 in the NEAC.

Shirley was one of the top hitters and pitchers for the Express in the 2018 season. This is his first all-conference honor. The sophomore from Ithaca, New York pitched, played at first base, and was designated hitter throughout the season. In 34 games, Shirley led the team with 37 hits, including 11 doubles, a triple, and two home runs. He led the team in batting average and on-base percentage and was second in slugging percentage. He scored 27 runs and drove in 27 runs. As a pitcher, Shirley worked 51 innings and had 55 strikeouts. He made nine starts in 11 appearances with a 3-7 record. Within NEAC play, Shirley ranked 10th in the conference in innings pitched, and third in strikeouts with 29.

Nolan, a sophomore catcher from Brick, New Jersey ranked third on the team in hits with 35 in 32 games played. He had a team-high 12 doubles with three triples and two home runs. He led the team in slugging percentage at .536. He tied for the team lead in runs scored (29) and ranked third in RBIs (25). This is the second year in a row that Nolan has earned All-NEAC Second Team recognition.

It is the second consecutive year that Wells has had two players earn all-conference recognition, as Nolan and Zach Kemp earned Second Team distinction in 2017.
