Wells Baseball Wins 5-2 Over Mount Aloysius

The Wells College baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over Mount Aloysius on Monday, March 11. Wells scored three times in the top of the first and led the rest of the way as Zach Kemp pitched a complete-game victory.

The first three batters reached base for Wells in the opening inning and all three came in to score. Jordan VanHerpe singled, Derek Shea was hit by a pitch, and Anthony Aumick singled to bring in VanHerpe. After a strikeout, Tanner Dunkel singled to score Shea, and an RBI ground out from Tyler Young brought in Aumick.

Mount Aloysius scored single runs in the bottom of the first and bottom of the second, and were held scoreless the rest of the way. Kemp scattered eight hits over nine innings. He had eight strikeouts and walked one batter. He allowed one earned run.

Wells added insurance runs in the sixth and ninth innings. A Tyler Young single scored Ian Crawford in the sixth, and Aumick had an RBI single in the ninth to bring in VanHerpe.

Jordan VanHerpe and Anthony Aumick had three hits each for Wells. Tyler Young was 2-for-4.

Wells is 1-3 on the season and Mount Aloysius is 5-2. Monday's game was the first during a week of action at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Wells continues play with a Tuesday night game against Albertus Magnus.
