Fielding Woes Foil Express In Baseball Loss

The Wells College baseball team lost 12-8 at Dickinson College on Sunday, March 17 to wrap up its spring trip. Dickson led 6-0 and 11-3 before a late rally for Wells came up short. The Red Devils are 11-2 on the season and Wells is 4-6.

Dickinson scored five unearned runs in the second inning to build a 6-0 lead.

The first two runs of the game for Wells came home on a two-run double by Kevin Spaeth to bring in Mark Yorkey and Tanner Dunkel in the top of the fourth. Chris Forney followed with an RBI single to right to bring in Spaeth.

Three more unearned runs scored for Dickinson in a five-run sixth.

Wells scored five in the eighth with two bases-loaded walks, and RBI single for A.J. Nesci, and a passed ball and infield error later in the inning that brought in Wells runs.

Jared Strait started and pitched into the sixth inning. He allowed four earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Johnny Hall pitched the final two and a third innings with one earned run allowed on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Wells is back home for a Wednesday, March 20 game against Oneonta and a weekend three-game series against Southern Vermont.
