Oneonta Scores 11-3 Win Over Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team returned home and played on the Wells Turf Field for the first time since late February and were defeated 11-3 by SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday, March 20. The visiting Red Dragons scored three in the third inning and four in the fourth to take control of the game.

Wells scored its first run in the bottom of the third, an unearned run on a ground ball to shortstop that was thrown errantly to allow A.J. Nesci to score. Two Wells runs came in to score in the sixth. Back-to-back singles by Tanner Dunkel and Derek Shea put runners on second and third. Mark Yorkey hit a sac fly to right and Kevin Spaeth followed with an RBI groundout.

Dylan Nolan doubled in the first inning for Wells.

Oneonta leadoff hitter Jonathan Lezette had two home runs, and six RBIs in a three-hit performance.

Wells starting pitcher Zach Kemp took the loss in four innings of work. Alexander Mott and Noah Smith each pitched two innings of effective relief and Matt Morgan threw one inning in relief for Wells.

The Express will play a three-game series this weekend against Southern Vermont. Please check wells-express.com for updates and information on game times and dates.
