Southern Vermont Outslugs Wells Baseball In Series Opener

The Wells College baseball team totaled 14 hits in a 19-7 loss against Southern Vermont College on Saturday, March 23 at the Wells Turf Field. Southern Vermont scored 11 times in the top of the second inning and led 13-0 at that point.

Wells got on the board in the bottom of the second with an infield hit by A.J. Nesci that scored Tanner Dunkel.

A sacrifice fly by Derek Shea in the fifth inning brought in Dylan Nolan.

Wells added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double from Chris Forney and RBI single by Mark Yorkey.

Kevin Spaeth had a two-run single for the Express in the ninth inning.

Nesci had three hits for Wells. Dylan Nolan and Tyler Young had two singles each.

Johnny Hall was the starting pitcher for the Express. Matt Morgan pitched three and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs with four strikeouts. Ben Beratta and Jack Field also appeared in relief for the Express.

The teams will take the field again Sunday morning for a doubleheader beginning at 8:30 a.m.
