Clarks Summit Rallies For Baseball Win Over Wells

The Wells College baseball team took a four-run lead after two innings but visiting Clarks Summit rallied for a 6-4 win at the Wells Turf Field on Tuesday, March 26. Tanner Dunkel had two hits for Wells.

Wells started with three runs in the bottom of the first. Jordan VanHerpe walked and scored on a double by Dylan Nolan. After Tyler Young was hit by a pitch, Dunkel doubled to left center to bring in Nolan and Young.

Another run came in for Wells in the second on a walk and two-out error by Clarks Summit.

Clarks Summit scored twice in the fourth inning, once in the fifth, and took the lead with two in the seventh. They added an insurance run in the ninth. Wells managed two hits over the final seven innings of the game.

Dunkel was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Nolan, VanHerpe, and Derek Shea also had hits for Wells. Starting pitcher Noah Smith allowed two earned runs on three hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and two walks. Jack Field and Johnny Hall pitched two innings each and had two strikeouts apiece.

Wells defeated Clarks Summit 9-6 in a meeting earlier this season. The Express (5-10) will hit the road and begin North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a three-game series at Penn State Berks on Saturday and Sunday, March 30-31.
