Baseball Splits On Saturday Against Cobleskill

The Wells College baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader against SUNY Cobleskill in North Eastern Athletic Conference action. Wells won the first game 6-4 and dropped the second game 8-2. The teams will play again Sunday at 1 p.m. Wells is sixth in the NEAC standings with one conference game remaining. The top six teams in the conference will qualify for the conference tournament.

The Express is 15-20 overall and 8-9 in the NEAC. Cobleskill is 16-20 overall and 9-8 in the NEAC.

WELLS 6, COBLESKILL 4

The Express rallied from an early deficit to take the victory in the first game of the doubleheader. The Fighting Tigers led 3-0 after two innings. Wells got a run in the third on an RBI single by Dylan Nolan and added another in the fourth on an RBI single from Tyler Young.

Wells went ahead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and Jordan VanHerpe on third, Dylan Nolan, Mark Yorkey, and A.J. Nesci hit consecutive singles to bring in three runs. A two-out single up the middle for Young brought home Nesci and Wells led 6-3.

Cobleskill scored once in the sixth but Wells closed out the victory. Zach Kemp pitched a complete-game victory. He allowed two earned runs over seven innings with four strikeouts and no walks. He is 5-4 on the year.

Nolan was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Nesci and Young had two hits each. Nesci scored twice and Young drove in three.

COBLESKILL 8, WELLS 2

The Fighting Tigers scored eight runs on 17 hits and took the second game of the day. Wells got a pair of runs in the ninth on an RBI double by Tyler Young and a sacrifice fly by Anthony Aumick.

Derek Shea was the starting pitcher and worked seven innings. He was 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles. Dylan Nolan had two hits.
