Baseball Team’s Win Streak Reaches Three

The Wells College baseball team increased its win streak to three games after back-to-back shutout wins with today's 3-0 victory against Vassar College on Tuesday, March 10 in Florida.

Tanner Dunkel led Wells with a pair of hits and the winning run offensively, while Zach Kemp anchored the defense from the hill.

The formula that produced the team's first Florida win a day ago, was almost duplicated in the team's win today with solid pitching and timely hitting as the Express finished with eight hits on the day.

The only extra-base hit was Dunkel's double that led to the winning run after a Dylan Nolan RBI-single in the fourth inning. The Express padded its lead the next inning with the game's final two runs after Daniel Santiago and Ian Crawford scored. Dunkel's two hits and singles from Nolan, Santiago and Crawford accounted for five of the team's hits with the other three going to Tyler Young, Manny Carrillo and A.J. Nesci, with the latter adding an RBI.

Kemp was outstanding from the mound finishing the game with 13 strikeouts – one shy of the school record set one week ago by current North Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Jared Strait. Kemp allowed four hits in seven innings of work, while Derek Shea picked up the save with four strikeouts in the final two innings.

Next up is the Westminster (Pa.) College Titans on Wednesday, March 11 with a 5 p.m. start.
