Baseball Team Out-Hits Simpson in Florida

The Wells College baseball team battled Simpson College in a game that appeared destined as a defensive battle. Ten of the game's 13 runs were scored in the final four innings and although the Express out-hit the Storm, Wells fell on the short end of an 8-5 score on Thursday, March 12.

Trailing by a pair of runs, Wells got on the board after an Ian Crawford single scored Tanner Dunkel to cut the deficit to one in the first. Trailing 7-1 after the top of the seventh, the Express got three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get within striking distance after Dunkel and Crawford scored on errors and Luke Eitner brought home A.J. Nesci. The Express got another run after an error in the ninth with Dylan Nolan crossing the plate.

The Express finished the contest with 11 hits and had at least one hit in each inning except for the sixth.

Four Wells players had multiple-hits on the day. Of the four, Dunkel was the lone Wells player to do it with an extra-base hit by finishing the day with a double and single. Joe Horne, Nolan and Crawford all finished with a pair of singles.

Single hits came from Nesci, Carrillo and Eitner, with the latter two recording RBIs. The Express rotated three pitchers during the contest that included Austin Jordan, Tyler Young and Derek Shea.
