Senior Spotlight: Tyler Young

Senior Spotlight: Tyler Young

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Tyler Young from the baseball team.

Tyler is a business major from Maywood, N.J., who primarily saw time in the infield this past season.

First-year Wells head baseball coach Ryan Stevens had the following to say about Tyler, "Tyler is a four-year starter and member of the Wells College baseball program. He has been a force in the middle of the lineup since his arrival and is a very charismatic leader for the Express. Tyler was a captain for the 2020 season and will be greatly missed."

Over his 100-game career at Wells, Tyler had 82 hits with 23 going for extra bases. Tyler scored 47 runs and batted-in 58 runners with a .245 batting average, a .325 on-base percentage and .331 slugging percentage. In the field, Tyler had 476 putouts and 23 assists with 31 double plays for a .982 fielding percentage. Over his four years, Tyler also appeared in five games on the mound with three strikeouts.

During the shortened 2020 season, Tyler recorded three hits and three RBIs with a .200 batting average, a .294 on-base percentage and .267 slugging percentage while scoring one run during eight games. In the field, Tyler had 10 putouts and two assists for a perfect fielding percentage and appeared in two games from the mound with a pair of strikeouts.

Tyler was one of six baseball team members announced in the inaugural class of Wells College's New York State Alpha Omicron Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, a national organization that recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition.

In addition to baseball, Tyler aided the athletics department during events over the years.
