It was a long break for the Wells College baseball squad, as they went 12-straight days without seeing any game action. However, that long pause did little to quell the flames of a scorching hot offense that picked up right where they left off in Myrtle Beach, as the Express pounded 5 home runs over two games to secure a 2-game sweep of Bryant & Stratton of Syracuse by scores of 11-5 and 8-5.
Many Express bats got in on the long-ball action, as each of the 5 homers came from a different Wells batsmen. Max Odum, Jacobi James, John Valinoti, and Zach Young left the park in game 1, with Chris Mclean belting the lone homer in game 2.
Jacobi James and Cameron Hayman also brought some extra firepower in the first matchup. James went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Hayman also notched 3 RBI in game 1, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
Lots of Express arms saw the mound in the 2-game set, with Jonathan Haines and Mason Smith giving an inning each in the first stages of game 1, followed by 3 solid, no-hit innings by sophomore John Pascarella Jr. The 3 pitchers combined for 5 innings of scoreless ball in game 1, only allowing 1 hit.
Game 2 was also a strong showing for the boys from Aurora, as a 5-run first inning helped them get out to a big lead which they wouldn't relinquish over the course of the game.
James Camacho, Bradley Mills, and Chris Mclean each finished with 2 RBI in what was a balanced offensive showing during the 2nd matchup.
The Express also kept up their base-stealing success, swiping 7 bags during the two showdowns with the Bobcats.
Wells baseball will carry a 6 game win streak into their second midweek doubleheader on Thursday, when they welcome the Saxons of Alfred University to town for their final tune-up before diving into a rigorous AMCC schedule.
