FIELD HOCKEY OFF TO 2-0 START

The Wells College field hockey team got the season started with a 1-0 overtime victory over Cedar Crest College on Saturday. The two teams played into overtime until Paige Corneby, who led the team in shots, was able to squeeze one by Cedar Crest goalie Rachel Oren to give Wells the win.

Goalie Beth Cereo was the unsung hero for Wells tallying 11 saves in the game, four in overtime.

Wells College headed to Rosemont College on Sunday where they defeated the Ramblers 3-0 to earn their second straight victory.

Play was back and forth in the first 18 minutes of the game until Wells' Gabriella Decker broke through the Rambler defense at 19:03 and scored the opening goal of the contest.  The goal cage would only be silent for one minute as Paige Corneby followed with the second goal at 20:43.

After holding off the Express offense for the rest of the half, Rosemont came out in the second and were able to get several shots off against Wells goalkeeper Beth Cereo.  It would not be the team's day though as forward Liz Barclay scored the Express' third and final goal of the day at 44:37.

The Field Hockey team will head to Morrisville for their next game on Thursday, Septemeber 4, at 4:00 pm in Morrisville.
