WELLS FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO CEDAR CREST

Aurora, NY – Cedar Crest College survived a penalty shot and a late flury by the Express offense as they went on to blank Wells College 1-0 in field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Wells. Rachel Orlen recorded the shutout victory finishing with a game high six saves while Emily Seifert scored the lone goal, snapping a three-game skid for Falcons. The Express were paced by Martha Knowlan who finished with four saves. With the loss Wells fall 0-4 while Cedar Crest improves to 1-3.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half and a sea of players crashing the net off a penalty corner, Seifert would find the ball and hammer home a shot to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Express would get their best chance to tie the game 22 seconds remaining in the half as the Falcons would be whistled for a back slash awarding the Express a penalty shot, but Gabriella Decker would rip her penalty shot of the top corner of the goal cage sending the game into halftime with the Express down 1-0.

The Express would pressure the Falcons for much of the second half putting three shots on goal, but Orlen was sensational in net stopping everything the Express threw at her.

The Express will next play Sunday, September 13th at 11:00 am against Rosemont College.
