TWO SECOND HALF GOALS SEND EXPRESS TO VICTORY

Aurora, NY – Charlotte Fielding (Queensbury, NY) and Liz Barclay (Laport, PA) each scored and Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, CA) finished with five saves in net as the Wells College Field Hockey team went on to defeat the Rosemont College Ravens 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Wells. Ravens goalie Chelsea Reeve finished with eight saves while Elizabeth Kemp scored the lone goal for Rosemont. The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the Express while the Ravens fall to 0-3 on the season.

Although neither team would score in the first half, the Wells offense controlled much of the half as they would pepper the Ravens with seven shots, six on goal, including a penalty shot by Brittany Stanton (Deposit, NY) that was knocked away by a sprawling Reeve.

Deadlocked at 0-0 through the first 37-minutes, the Express would finally get on the board as Charlotte Fielding scored off a penalty corner feed from Marie Baezner (Geneva, Switzerland) and Adrienne Tomao (Walton, NY) for a 1-0 lead. The score would stand as each team would pressures the others goalie, but with 25-minutes remaining Rosemont would be whistled for a mouth guard violation and issued a yellow card giving the Express a one-man advantage for five minutes.  With less than a minute remaining on the man advantage Liz Barclay would hammer home a rebound in front of the net giving the Express 2-0 lead.

It wasn't until time had expired and the referees allowed play to continue that Rosemont would get their best scoring chance as Kemp found a loose ball in front of the net off a penalty corner, and sent it by a diving Bass to break up the shutout.

The Express will next play Morrisville State on Wednesday, September 16 at 4:00 pm at Wells.
