EXPRESS FALL TO MARYWOOD IN SHOOTOUT

Aurora, NY After 100 minutes of play the Marywood Pacers and the Wells Express field hockey teams remained tied at 1-1 as penalty strokes would be needed to decide the contest. The Pacers would go on to defeat the Express in the shootout (2-1), earning the 2-1 victory on Thursday afternoon at Wells. Adrienne Tomao scored the lone goal for the Express while Brittany Beaton tallied the only goal for the Pacers.

The Express jumped out quickly in the first half pressuring the Pacer defense with six shots and four penalty corners. Tomao would put the Express ahead at 24:39 tipping in a shot from Stefanie Miller for the 1-0 lead.

It would be a completely different story in the second half as Marywood would flip the script and pressure the Express defense while allowing just one shot on net in the half. Brittany Beaton would tie the game at 53:41 of the second half and the two teams would play to a stale mate the rest of the half.

Both teams would squander opportunities in the overtime frames as Wells would finish the double-overtime set with five shots on net while the Pacers would finish with three.

With the shootout tied at one after the first-attempt by both teams, the Pacers would grab the advantage on the second attempt, as Julie Dougherty would fire a shot past Express goalie Marth Knowlan for the 2-1 shootout lead and eventual game winning goal. Pacer goalie Jamie Bowman would go on to save the next four shots by the Express to earn the shootout victory.

With the loss the Express fall to 1-9 on the season while the Pacers improve to 3-7. The Express will next travel to Wilson College on Saturday, October 17th at 12:00 pm.
