LATE GOAL SINKS EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─   Brackney Brotzman (Brackney, Pa./Montrose) scored with less than five minutes remaining, snapping a 2-2 deadlock, sending the Keystone College Giants field hockey team (2-1) to a 3-2 victory over the Wells College Express (0-3) on Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Brittany Stanton (Depost, N.Y./Deposit) and Kristina Owens (Kerhonkson, N.Y./Roundout) each scored for the Express, while Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) finished with three saves in the loss. Brotzman led the Giants with two goals, while Melinda Moore (Norwich, N.Y.) earned the win in net with four saves.

Stanton put the Express on the board first, scoring off a rebound at 6:10 of the first half for a 1-0 lead. The score would hold into the 47th minute of play when Keystone forward Kelsey Drozda (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R.) notched the game tying goal off a penalty corner. After a goal by Brotzman put the Giants up 2-1, the Express began to pressure and their efforts would pay off as Owens scored on a pass from Stanton to tie the game at 2-2 with 15 minutes to play.

Despite being down a player after Drozda earned a yellow card, the Giants still managed to fight their way into the offensive zone where Brotzman drove home the eventual game winning goal on a feed from Katie Darling (Fleetville, Pa./Lackawanna) with less than five minutes remaining as the Giants held on for the 3-2 victory.

The Express return to action next on Wednesday, September 15 against SUNY Morrisville at 4:00 p.m. in Morrisville, N.Y.
