WELLS FIELD HOCKEY COMES UP SHORT AGAINST ST. VINCENT

(Aurora, N.Y.) ─  A late rally by Wells College came up short as the St. Vincent College Bearcats held on to defeat the Express 2-1 in field hockey action Sunday afternoon in Aurora. Adrienne Tomao scored the lone goal for Wells, while Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) finished with three saves in the loss. Samantha Larkin (Elkridge, Md.) paced the Bearcats with two goals. With the loss the Express fall to 1-7 on the season, while the Bearcats improve to 2-7.  

 The Bearcats jumped on the board at 12:24 as Larkin tipped in her shot off a deflection from a penalty corner to give St. Vincent the 1-0 lead.  

The score remained 1-0 well into the second half until Larkin again found herself in the right place at the right time, tipping in a second shot off of a penalty corner to extend the Bearcats lead, 2-0.   The Express rallied late in the second half, scoring on a Tomao rebound off a penalty corner, cutting the lead to one, 2-1, with 20 minutes to play.  

Wells continued to pressure deep inside Bearcats territory, gaining momentum as two untimely yellow cards from St. Vincent would give the Express a one man advantage at 58:02 and again at 68:29. Despite the advantage, the Bearcats held strong and kept the Express off the board as they held on for the 2-1 victory.  

For the game, St. Vincent held the advantage in shots 9-6 and penalty corners 18-12.  

The Express play next against Oswego State on Thursday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Oswego.
