LAKERS HOLD OFF EXPRESS

AURORA, N.Y. – The Oswego State University Lakers held the Wells College field hockey to team to five shots en route to a 2-0 victory over the Express Thursday afternoon in Aurora. Alyssa Hare (Middleport, N.Y.) and Jordan McGuire (Macedon, N.Y.) each tallied a goal for the Lakers, while Auburn native Julie Janusz finished with one save in net. Amanda Catalano (Lockport, N.Y.) paced Wells with three saves in goal. With the loss the Express fall to 3-8 on the year while the Lakers improve to 5-8.

The Lakers broke a scoreless tie in the 22nd minute. Lindsey Spatola fired a rocket on net off a penalty corner, Catalano stopped the initial shot but, the ball would fall on to the stick of Hare who hammered the rebound home for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Express attack Elisabeth Rollo (Geneva, N.Y.) fired a shot past Janusz seemingly knotting the game up at one but, the officials would come together and disallow the goal as Oswego held on to their one goal lead.

Oswego added an insurance goal at 58:09. McGuire found a loose ball in front of the goal and sent a sweeping back hand shot into the far left side, giving the Lakers some breathing room with a little over 15 minutes to play. The Oswego defense took over from there, limiting the offensive chances from Wells and holding on to the 2-0 victory.

The Lakers held the advantage in shots (10-5) and penalty corners (17-6).

The Express return to action Saturday when they take on Neumann University at 11:00 am in Aurora.
