AURORA, N.Y.Brittany Stanton (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) scored with less than five minutes to play in regulation, snapping a 1-1 tie, as the Wells College field hockey team (1-1) held on to defeat the Morrisville State Mustangs 2-1 (0-1) on Tuesday evening in Aurora, N.Y.  Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) also scored while Amanda Catalano (Lockport, N.Y./Royalton Hartland) earned the victory in net with six saves. Brandi Rafalko (Great Meadows, N.J./North Warren) scored the lone goal for the Mustangs, while Laura Blumenfeld (Rockland, N.Y./Clarkstown South) suffered the loss in net finishing with one save.

Morrisville started the scoring early on a penalty stroke goal that Rafalko sent high right over the shoulder of Catalano to take a 1-0 lead. The Express answered less than three minutes later on a redirection by Grosser off a penalty corner shot from Stanton as the two teams remained deadlock (1-1) after the first half.

The two teams played an even match through much of the second half but, Wells would pull away, drawing three penalty corners late in the game and capitalizing on the third.  Elizabeth Rollo (Geneva, N.Y./Southern Cayuga) took the corner and sent a pass over to Shelby Moszkowicz (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) , who slid a pass over to Stanton, who blasted a shot from the top of the arc through a crowd in front of the goal and past Blumenfeld for the go ahead goal with less than five minutes to play.

Despite the loss, the Mustangs held the advantage in shots (10-5) and penalty corners (16-5).

The Express will next head to Chambersburg, Pa. to take on Wilson College this coming Saturday in game one of the Wilson College Invitational with the game time set for 1:00 p.m.
