HOUGHTON PREVAILS OVER EXPRESS IN OT

AURORA, N.Y. – Adria Bridgwood broke in all alone and tapped a shot past goalie Amanda Catalano (Lockport, N.Y.) sending the Houghton College Highlanders to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the Wells College Express in field hockey action Thursday evening in Houghton. Catalano finished with nine saves in the loss.

The Highlanders posted the first score of the game at 7:32. Maesa Phongsamouth followed a shot by Ashley Engle to give the HIghlanders a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until the 48:25 of the second half when Express freshmen Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) tied the game at one off a penalty corner from Avary McKinney (Rochester, N.Y.). Houghton pressured in the overtime frame putting four shots on net including the game winner at 4:11 of OT.

Despite the loss, the defense held strong for the Express who faced 32 shots and 17 penalty corners from Houghton.

The Express return to action on Tuesday, September 6, when they welcome Morrisville State College to Wells for a 4 p.m. start.
