Mustangs Score Three Unanswered, Edge Express 3-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Despite a 1-0 lead at halftime, the Wells College field hockey team allowed three unanswered goals in a 3-1 loss to the Mustangs of Morrisville State College Wednesday afternoon at Drake Field. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-3 on the season while the Mustangs even their record at 1-1.

Trailing 1-0, Morrisville State scored three-straight unanswered goals to secure the victory in the second half. In the 49th minute, Taylor Fields fired a shot on goal that missed wide. Collecting the loose ball, Paige Jerrett scored at 49:11 of the second half to knot the score at one. Only 1:34 later, Sarah Angerer scored what would be the game-winning goal as she forced home a rebound off the pads of freshman netminder Cassi Greene (Martville, N.Y.) to take the 2-1 lead. Angerer struck again in the 66th minute to add insurance late in the contest.

Junior forward Avary McKinney (Rochester, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the first half, forcing home the ball following a net-front scramble to grant Wells the 1-0 lead.

Greene (0-2) drew the loss in the contest, allowing three goals on 10 shots on net. Ellen DePasquale (1-0) posted the victory in goal for the Mustangs, making five saves on six shots on goal.
