Express Shut Down By Cardinals, 1-0

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Despite two Express goaltenders combining for seven saves, the Wells College field hockey team posted their third consecutive loss Tuesday afternoon, falling by a 1-0 margin to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-5 on the year while the Cardinals improve to 3-5 overall.

Liz Baldwin converted a penalty shot opportunity at 29:24 of the first half, granting the Cardinals a 1-0 lead of which they would not relinquish. In total, the Cardinals outshot the Express by an 18-to-5 margin while also receiving 10 penalty corners.

Over the past five games, the Express have been outscored by a cumulative 11-to-1 margin while also being outshot 61-to-31.

Freshman goaltender Cassi Greene (Martville, N.Y.) drew the loss in goal, allowing one goal on four shots. Classmate Kylie Nishioka (Encinitas, Calif.) relieved Greene to begin the second half and made four stops on four shots to conclude the contest. Danielle Famolaro picked up the victory, halting all four Express shots on net.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 22 as they host the Hawks of Becker College in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
