Golden Flyers Rally Past Express, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Wells College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 contest to the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 3-8 overall on the season while the Golden Flyers improve to 2-9 on the year following the non-conference contest.

With the score at 2-0 in favor of the home team entering the second half of play, freshman Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) struck for the Express' lone goal of the game, forcing home an Avary McKinney (Rochester, N.Y.) feed at 48:01 of the second half to cut the deficit in half. The Express could not muster any additional offense, as Maggie Muzio struck for her third goal of the season at 53:45 to add insurance for the Golden Flyers.

With her fourth goal of the season, Bastian has accumulated 11 points (4-3=11) on the season, marking the eighth-best single-season effort by any Express player dating back to the 1986 season. McKinney's second career assist also gives her 12 points (5-2=12) across her three year career, ranking her in a three-way tie for 16th place all-time in program history.

Express goaltender Kylie Nishioka (Encinitas, Calif.) made eight saves in the losing effort, allowing only three goals to the Golden Flyers to fall to 3-4 overall on the year. Shannon Winney halted four of five shots on goal that she faced to collect her third winning decision of the season.

The Express return to action on Monday, Oct. 8 at 4:00 p.m. as they host Marywood University.
