AURORA, N.Y. – Freshman Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, but the Wells College field hockey team posted a 2-1 loss to the Golden Eagles of The College at Brockport. The Golden Eagles improve to 6-4 overall on the year while the Express drop only their second game at home on the year, falling to 4-9 on the year.

Megan Usher scored her first goal of the season at 25:34 of the first half, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Abby Eschen scored the game-tying goal around seven minutes before, redirecting a mid-air ball past Express netminder Kylie Nishioka for the score.

The Express did strike first in the contest, as Bastian's sixth goal of the season came at 13:24 of the first period, placing Wells College out in front early. Senior captain Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) received a feed from midfielder Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.), who put the ball in play from out of bounds. Bass fed a streaking Bastian, who was able to force the ball past Brockport netminder Kasey Schreiner for the first goal of the game. The assist by Bass was her first collegiate point in her 53 career contests.

Bastian has now scored a goal in each of her last three contests and is in the midst of a four game point streak. She has recorded three goals and two assists for eight points (3-2=8) dating back to Oct. 3 against Oswego State University where she netted two assists in the contest. In program history, Bastian ranks 11th all-time in points with 15 and third in points per game (1.15). Her 15 points on the season are tied for sixth place all-time in single season scoring.

Nishioka (4-4) draws her fourth loss on the year, allowing two goals in eight shots on net. Schreiner (6-4) collects her sixth victory, allowing only one goal on three Wells shots.

The field hockey team and Head Coach Mike O'Brien honored Bass in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day as she will not be able to attend the regularly scheduled Senior Day festivities on Saturday, Oct. 20 due to presenting her thesis at an academic conference.

Join the Express on Saturday as they honor outgoing seniors Shelby Moszkowicz (Rochester, N.Y.) and Emily Gottshall (Coatesville, Pa.) prior to their game against Wilson College on Oct. 20 – game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Stay up to date with the latest news directly from the Wells College athletic department by "liking" us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/WellsExpress) and subscribing to our Twitter account (http://www.twitter.com/WellsExpress).
