Field Hockey Halted By Houghton, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Freshman Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.Y.) had the lone shot for the home team as the Wells College field hockey team posted a 5-0 loss to the Highlanders of Houghton College Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-2 overall while the Highlanders pick up their first victory of the year, improving to 1-2 as well.

Wells had the first shot of the game by either team as Stokes' shot squared up the pad of opposing goalkeeper Emily Thompson. The Express did not register another shot for the remainder of the game while Houghton went on to fire 23 shots, scoring on five of them. Adria Bridgwood had two unassisted goals for Houghton, while Maesa Phongsamouth, Colleen Sullivan and Tyler Reese added goals for the visitors. Sullivan also added an assist on Phongsamouth's strike.

Express goalkeeper Sydney Line (Freeport, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the losing effort, allowing five goals to the Highlanders. Emily Thompson earned the victory for the Highlanders, making the save on Stokes' blast. For Houghton, Carly Congilosi relieved Thompson with 2:17 remaining in regulation time and was not tested.
