Field Hockey Blanked By Brockport, 4-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) posted a career-best 15 saves, but the Wells College field hockey team recorded a 4-0 loss to the Golden Eagles of The College at Brockport Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-5 while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season.

Wells managed only four total shots in the game as the Brockport offense was in control from the opening whistle. The Golden Eagles fired 48 total shots on the afternoon, the most by a Wells opponent dating back to Sept. 1, 2005 – in that contest, the Express posted an 8-0 loss after the Roadrunners of Ramapo College fired 52 total shots.

Emily Corpin opened the scoring for Brockport at 9:27, scoring an unassisted goal to elevate the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 lead. Nickole Morgan, Jackie Massoni and Nicole Fazzolari added tallies for Brockport to account for the remaining goals. Abby Eschen also added two assists on the afternoon.

Sophomores Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.), Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.) and Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) each recorded a shot on goal for Wells. Sophomore Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) recorded a defensive save in the loss.

Despite the overwhelming number of shots faced, Line limited the host Golden Eagles to only four goals and made 15 total saves, the most by a Wells goalkeeper dating back to Sept. 29, 2012 against Scranton. For Brockport, Lindsay Farrell made three saves in the complete game, shutout victory.

Wells will kick off a road trip to Massachusetts this Saturday, Sept. 21, facing-off against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College at 3:00 p.m. before taking on Becker College at noon on Sunday.
