LEICESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) scored two goals as the Wells College field hockey team collected a 3-2 victory over the Hawks of Becker College Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Express improve to 2-6 overall on the year while the Hawks fall to 0-8.

With a 2-1 lead entering the second half of play, sophomore Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) scored what would eventually become the game-winning goal at 56:28 to elevate Wells to a 3-1 lead. Becker would answer with a goal just under 10 minutes later to cut into their deficit, but the Express would hold on for a 3-2 victory by limiting the hosts to only one shot for the remainder of regulation time.

For Becker, Elizabeth McNiff scored her team's first goal at 32:17 off of a feed from Katherine DiMascio, who added her team's second goal at 64:44 off of an assist by Amy Giguere. The Hawks outshot the Express by a 9-to-8 margin and held the 9-to-6 edge in penalty corners but Wells was able to hold onto the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) allowed two goals on seven shots, making five saves for her second win of the year. Samantha-Jo Dilkes allowed three goals on four shots, halting one shot on goal. Becker recorded two defensive saves on the afternoon as Carolyn Steinbeiser and Cameron Rogers each bailed out their goalkeeper. Sophomore Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) notched her third defensive save of the year to help the Express.
