Field Hockey Set Back By Ramapo, 8-2

ALLENDALE, N.J. – Juniors Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.) and Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) each tallied a goal for the Express but the Wells College field hockey team was defeated by the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by an 8-2 score on Saturday. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-1 on the young season while Ramapo (1-0) picked up their first victory of the year.

Only 32 seconds following Ramapo's second first half tally, Fitzgerald scored her first collegiate  goal after sending a pass home from senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) to cut their team's deficit in half. Later in the game, Bastian's first goal of the season came in the 63rd minute, cutting the deficit to six goals. Freshman Nicole Sales (Woodbury, Conn.) registered her first collegiate point on the play with an assist.

Ramapo consistently applied pressure throughout the contest, firing 24 shots in the 70 minute game and scored five of their eight goals in the second half. Gianna Mouskorie scored three of her team's goals while Megan Minneci scored twice. Christina Bacino picked up a goal and two assists.

Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss despite making 12 saves. Emily Wisneski and Emily Kramer split time in goal for Ramapo, allowing a goal apiece. Kramer also registered her team's lone save.

The Express return to action Sunday, Aug. 31 as they face-off against Goucher in a high noon road contest.
