Field Hockey Defeated By St. Lawrence, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite trailing by only one goal at the half, the Wells College field hockey team posted a 5-0 loss to the Saints of St. Lawrence University on Saturday at the Athletic Association Field. With the loss, Wells dips to 0-6 on the year while St. Lawrence improves to 2-3.

The Express limited the visitors to only one goal in the first 35 minutes, despite St. Lawrence outshooting the Express by a 10-to-6 margin. Kara Pelosi's goal only 7:18 into the contest stood until she added her second tally of the game in the 47th minute. Sam Haab increased the Saints lead to 3-0 at 54:25 before Pelosi completed the hat trick at 65:58. Molly Manning scored her first collegiate goal to increase the score to 5-0, forcing home a rebound near the left post.

Wells was the beneficiary of 11 penalty corners but the team was unable to cash in on their opportunities. Additionally, the Express racked up 14 total shots throughout the contest but did not score a goal in a game for the first time in 2014.

Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) racked up double-digit saves for the fourth time across six games this season, allowing five goals on 17 total shots on goal. Kim Haab went the distance in net for St. Lawrence, halting all seven shots on goal that she faced.

The Express hit the road Sunday, Sept. 14 as they face-off against Bryn Mawr College in a 2 p.m. showdown.
