Field Hockey Posts 3-2 Loss To Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Wells College field hockey team posted a 3-2 loss to the Giants of Keystone College on Wednesday at the hosts' brand-new turf playing surface. The Express drop to 0-9 and have lost their fifth one-goal game of the season. Keystone improves to 2-6 on the season following their win against Wells.

Despite an early goal by Keystone's Lauren Smith, junior Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the year after forcing home a ball following a net-front scramble to tie the game at one aside. Keystone, however, would counter with the game's next two goals to take a 3-1 lead after Smith's second goal of the game at 63:22.

Sophomore Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) netted her first goal of the season with only 40 ticks left on the scoreboard to cut into the hosts' lead, 3-2, but ultimately time ran out before the Express could generate an additional scoring opportunity. On the day, Keystone outshot Wells by a 15-to-7 margin despite Wells holding the 6-to-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) made seven saves and allowed all three goals by Keystone. The Giants' backstop, Emily Hawkins, halted two-of-five shots on net to earn the win.

The Express return to action next Sunday, Oct. 5 as they host the Phoenix of Wilson College at 1 p.m. on the Athletic Association Field.
