Field Hockey Drops 3-1 Contest At Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – In the program's first-ever contest played in New Hampshire, the Wells College field hockey team posted a 3-1 loss to the Raiders of Rivier University on Sunday. With the loss, Wells (0-11) remains winless while the Raiders improve to 5-10 on the year.

Meredith Garcia got the hosts on the board first as she scored off a pass from Chelsea Gomes only 82 seconds into the contest. Wells countered with a strike from junior Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.), set up by classmate Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.), to even the score at one aside.

Rivier took the lead for good, however, with a goal at 33:32 from Gomes. Leading 2-1, Amber Bennett forced home a feed from Nicole Hauer for added insurance down the stretch. Cumulatively, Rivier outshot the Express by a 9-to-8 margin despite Wells having the decisive advantage in penalty corners, 10-to-3.

Making her first collegiate start for Wells, goalkeeper Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss after allowing two goals on four shots. Sophomore Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) allowed a goal on the lone shot that she faced.

Wells returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 14 as they host Marywood at the Athletic Association Field at 1 p.m.
