Marywood Sneaks By Field Hockey, 2-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) scored her team's lone goal as the Wells College field hockey team posted a 2-1 loss to Marywood University at the Athletic Association Field on Tuesday. Wells (0-12) remains winless on the year while Marywood improves to 6-7 overall on the season.

Trailing by a 1-0 margin, Fargnoli fought through heavy crease traffic at 46:19 and forced the ball past Marywood goalkeeper Kayle Huey for the equalizer. The Pacers, however, came right back with the go-ahead goal at 47:40 as Leanne McManus sent a right-to-left ball that was tipped home inside the right post by Kirsten Webb.

In the first half of play, Marywood and Wells played to a 0-0 score despite the visitors outshooting the Express by a 5-to-3 margin. The Pacers, however, scored in the first 3:49 of the second half after Tori Jo Kakusian fired a blast through a wide-open crease that Wells goalkeeper Sydney Line (Northport, N.Y.) was unable to stop.

In addition to holding the 12-to-9 shot advantage, the Pacers also held the 7-to-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Line drew the loss for Wells, making six saves on eight shots faced. Huey picked up the win despite allowing one goal on four shots.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 as they travel to Oswego State University for a 1 p.m. contest. Wells has played Oswego State more than any other team in its 39-year history and will look for their first victory against the Lakers since Sept. 29, 1992.
