Oswego State Shuts Down Field Hockey, 1-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Limited to only two shots the entire contest, the Wells College field hockey team posted a tough 1-0 loss to the Lakers of Oswego State University on Saturday. With the defeat, Wells falls to 0-13 overall on the year while Oswego State improves to 6-7 on the year.

Wells and Oswego State battled to a 0-0 deadlock through the opening 35 minutes of action as the Express limited the hosts to only three shots on net. Oswego State's Grace Rinaldi scored her sixth goal of the season at 44:27, however, as she tapped home a left-to-right pass from Lisa O'Callaghan.

The Express were stymied offensively until the Lakers allowed a penalty corner to junior Courtney Bastian (West Winfield, N.Y.) with only 40 seconds left in regulation time. Wells was able to generate two shots offensively, the first from freshman Nicole Sales (Woodbury, Conn.) and the second from junior Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.). The first shot from Sales was turned aside by an Oswego State back while the second shot from Taylor was halted by Sarita Charap for her first save of the game.

Wells goalkeeper Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) had a stellar game, making eight saves while facing nine total shots on net. Charap earned the shutout, halting the lone shot on goal from Wells in the final minute of action.

The Express have concluded their road schedule and play their final three games of the year at home. Wells returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 22 as they host Brockport State in a 4 p.m. contest at the Athletic Association Field.
